The Ansett-ANA Victorian Air Coach Service Douglas DC-3 VH-ANJ was badly damaged when it was forced to make an emergency landing on a farm, following an engine failure whilst taking-off from Warrnambool Airport, Victoria.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-138B VH-EBM 'City of Launceston' operated its final passenger service, operating Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to the United Kingdom (London / Heathrow) return via the 'Southern Cross' route. It was then withdrawn from service and stored at Sydney, having flown 11,995 hours.

The Qantas Airways Lockheed 188C Electra VH-ECD was officially leased to Air New Zealand. It was then overhaulled and repainting into a modified livery at Sydney (Kingsford Smith).

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-338C VH-EBU 'City of Broken Hill' operated the airline's final London (Heathrow) - New York 'Southern Cross' service as Flight QF533.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-338C VH-EAD was sold to the Royal Australian Air Force. It was reregistered as A20-624 and named 'Richmond Town' before entering service with No. 33 Transport Squadron.

The Air New Zealand Boeing 747-219B ZK-NZV 'Aotea' operated the airline's inaugural 'one-stop' service between New Zealand and the United Kingdom via the United States. Operating as Flight NZ2 it flew flew Auckland - Los Angeles - London (Gatwick).

The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-238B VH-EBA 'City of Canberra' returned to Qantas service, operating Flight QF3 from Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Sydney (Kingsfords Smith). It had been leased to Air New Zealand from February 23 to April 01.

The Trans-Australia Airlines Boeing 727-276A VH-TBJ 'Joseph Banks' was rolled out at Melbourne (Tullamarine) in the airline's new 'Australian' livery.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-338 VH-EBY was leased to Japan Airlines for two years to operate joint services between Australia and Japan. It was operated in the standard JAL livery with 'Qantas' titles on the rear fuselage and tail.

The Japan Airlines / Qantas Airways Boeing 747-338 VH-EBY operated its last passenger service as Flight JL771 from Japan (Tokyo / Narita) to Sydney (Kingsford Smith). The aircraft was then returned to Qantas and prepared for its next lease to Garuda Indonesian Airlines.

The Air New Zealand Boeing 767-204ER ZK-NBJ was rolled out in an 'all-white' livery in preparation for an intended lease to Air Atlanta Iceland, which did not eventuate. The airline's titles and 'Koru' tail logo were re-applied to the aircraft and it was returned to service.
