The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-138 VH-EBB 'City of Sydney' whilst enroute from the United States (San Francisco) to Sydney (Kingsford Smith), suffered an in-flight engine failure which required a diversion to Brisbane. On its arrival at Brisbane it became the first Boeing 707 to land at this Australian city. |

The Number 3 engine exploded and was ripped from its mounting brackets. |
