On This Day - August 16, 1959.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-138 VH-EBB 'City of Sydney' whilst enroute from the United States (San Francisco) to Sydney (Kingsford Smith), suffered an in-flight engine failure which required a diversion to Brisbane. On its arrival at Brisbane it became the first Boeing 707 to land at this Australian city.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-338C VH-EBP 'Alice Springs' arrived at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (Seattle / Renton). It was the airline's 16th Boeing airliner.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-238B VH-EBA 'City of Canberra' arrived at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (Everett / Paine Field). It was the airline's 35th Boeing airliner and its 1st Boeing 747.

On This Day - August 16, 1977.

The Trans-Australia Airlines Boeing 727-276A VH-TBL was badly damaged on landing at Melbourne (Tullamarine) during a test-flight, following the aircraft's return from a 12 month lease to Iran Air. The Number 3 engine exploded and was ripped from its mounting brackets.

The Ansett Airlines Boeing 737-277A VH-CZO arrived at Melbourne (Tullamarine) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (Seattle, Boeing Field).

The Ansett Airlines Boeing 737-377 VH-CZA, that had been stored at Christchurch (New Zealand) since September 13, 2001 when the Ansett Group of Companies ceased operations due to insolvency, was ferried to Melbourne (Tullamarine) as Flight AN737 for further storage, pending its sale to Airlift Trading Ltd, NZ.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-438 VH-OJO 'City of Toowoomba' was ferried from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Hong Kong as Flight QF6027, for maintenance and repainting into the 'New Roo' livery by HAECO.

The Jetgo Australia Embraer ERJ-135LR VH-JGB, now reregistered as N135P, departed Sydney (Kingsford Smith) where it had been stored since June 22, 2018 following the collapse of the airline, on its ferry flight to the United States (Muni, Cincinnati, Ohio) for storage.
