On This Day - July 24, 1964.

The Australian Lockheed 188 Electra fleet was grounded by the Department of Civil Aviation, as a result of 'corrosion specks' being found in the wing structure of the Trans-Australia Airlines Electra VH-TLB 'John Gilbert', that was undergoing maintenance at the time. These corrosion specks had been misidentified as being 'wing cracks'. The grounding order was lifted three days later.

 

On This Day - July 24, 1972.

The Airlines of N.S.W. Douglas DC-3-G202A VH-ANR, having been withdrawn from service at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) on July 17, was saved from being scrapped by three intrepid Ansett flight crew who persuaded Reg Ansett to lease the aircraft to them for the stunning lease fee of $1.00 per year. It was then ferried from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Sydney (HMAS Nirimba, Schofields) for storage later that day, where it remained for the next 2 years.

On This Day - July 24, 1992.

The Australian Airlines Boeing 737-476 VH-TJO 'Lorikeet' arrived at Melbourne (Tullamarine) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (Seattle, Boeing Field). During this delivery flight it established a 'World Distance Record' of 6,262 km between Hilo and Noumea for a twin-engined jet aircraft.

On This Day - July 24, 2001.

The Ansett Airlines Boeing 767-277 VH-RMF operated its last revenue service, operating Flight AN59 from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Melbourne (Tullamarine). The aircraft was undergoing heavy maintenance when Ansett ceased all operations on September 13. It had flown 51,128 hours with 36,634 cycles.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 767-338ER VH-OGD 'Maitland' was presented to invited member of the 'Press' at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) as the backdrop to the announcement of the new corporate livery, known as the 'New Roo' livery.

On This Day - July 24, 2018.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 737-838 VH-VXA 'Broome' operated its last service in the 'New Roo' livery as Flight QF978 from Brisbane to Townsville. It was then repainted by Flying Colours at Townsville into the Qantas 'Silver Roo' livery.
