On This Day - June 12, 1946. The ex-Royal Australian Air Force Short Sunderland Mk III flying boat 'A26-4' that had been acquired from the Royal Air Force as 'ML733' on March 12, 1944, and received by No. 2 FBRD at Newcastle (RAAF Base Rathmines) for storage following its withdrawl from service, was oficially advertised 'for sale' by the Commonwealth Disposal Commission. It was subsequently purchased by Capt B. W. Monkton, of Victoria Road, Bellevue Hill, Sydney on October 04, 1946. |

The Ansett Airlines Fokker F27-050 VH-FNJ, having been leased to Austraian Air Services for 2 years as OE-LFW, arrived at Brisbane (Queensland) having completed its ferry flight from Austria (Vienna) on return to Ansett at the end of the lease. It was reregistered as VH-FNJ on June 16. |

The Ansett Australia British Aerospace 146-200A VH-JJQ was undergoing heavy maintenance at Brisbane (Queensland) when Ansett suspended all operations on September 12, 2001. The overhaul was approximately two-thirds complete at this point. As no offers were received to purchase the aircraft scrapping was commenced at Brisbane on this day. |
