The Airlines of New South Wales Fokker F.27-2013 Friendship VH-FND was involved in a mid-flight bomb scare, whilst operating the Sydney (Kingsford Smith) - Maroochydore charter service for East-West Airlines. It made an emergency landing at Brisbane and carefully inspected but no bomb was found on the aircraft.

The Trans-Australia Airlines Airbus A300B4-203 VH-TAC 'John Forrest' entered service operating Flight TN534 from Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Sydney (Kingsford Smith).

The Air New South Wales Fokker F.27-5234 Friendship VH-FCE operated its final revenue service. It was then withdrawn from use and stored at Melbourne (Tullamarine) awaiting sale.

The Ansett Airlines Boeing 737-377 VH-CZE entered service, operating Flight AN384 from Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Canberra.

The Australian Airlines Boeing 737-476 VH-TJI, having been returned from its lease to Malaysian Airlines, was rolled-out at Melbourne (Tullamarine) in a hybrid Air Vanuatu livery, in preparation for joint operations between the two airlines. The aircraft was named 'Spirit of Vanuatu'.

The Tasman Pacific Airlines of New Zealand British Aerospace 146-300 ZK-NZJ was offered for immediate sale by the Administrators of the collapsed Ansett Airlines.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 737-376 VH-TAU 'Enterprise' was ferried from Melbourne (Tuillamarine) to Christchurch (New Zealand) as Flight QF6015, to commence service with Qantas Jetconnect. It was reregistered as ZK-JNF.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 737-838 VH-VXQ 'Retro Roo II' operated its last service in the 'Retro Roo' livery as Flight QF462 from Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Sydney (Kingsford Smith). It was then ferried from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Townsville later that day as Flight QF6122 for repainting by Flying Colours into the airline's standard 'silver roo' livery.
