This aircraft was built at the British Aerospace Hatfield plant for Ansett First flown as 'G-5-110' - September 15, 1988 Ferried Hatfield - Cambridge for conversion to Ansett requirements - September 15, 1988Conversion completed and the aircraft was returned to Hatfield - February 17, 1989 Entered onto the Australian Aircraft Register as VH-JJW - February 28, 1989 Registered to Ansett Transport Industriaes (Operations) Pty Ltd, Melbourne It was configured to seat 80 economy class passengers but was later reduced to 78 seats Departed Hatfield on the delivery flight to Australia - March 01, 1989 It arrived at Perth on completion of the delivery flight - March 05, 1989 Delivery route: Hatfield - Belgrade - Larnaca - Bombay (Madras) - Medan - Singapore - Denpasar - Perth Flight crew: Captains B. Poole, G. James, C. Bertelli, G. Bardsley; Engineers P. Kember, D. Martin Operated its first revenue service Perth - Karratha - March 14, 1989 Transferred to Ansett Australia when Ansett W. A. operations were merged It was the first Ansett W. A. aircraft to acquire the Ansett Australia 'Flag' livery Operated inaugural Ansett Australia Perth - Christmas Island - Cocos Island service as AN430 - September 04, 1993 Operated the final Ansett Australia Perth - Cocos Island - Christmas Island - Perth service as AN2878/2879 (Captains Kennedy, C. Walker) - October 26, 1997 Operated its last Ansett revenue service Ayers Rock (Yulara) - Perth as AN367 - September 13, 2001 Ansett suspended operations due to bankruptcy - September 13, 2001 It was stored at Perth and offered for immediate sale by the Ansett Administrators - October 02, 2001 Ferried Perth - Melbourne (Tullamarine) as AN4407 - October 09, 2001 Chartered by the Federal Liberal Party for use by John Howard during the election campaign - October 10, 2001 It performed numerous charters to different Australian cities Ferried Brisbane - Melbourne (Tullamarine) as AN4405 - December 17, 2001 Stored outside at the Ansett Maintenance area at Melbourne (Tullamarine) Ansett Engineering quote that the aircraft had flown 40,666 hours with 23,416 cycles - June 27, 2002 It was observed outside the Ansett Maintenance area with some parts missing - October 2004 The aircraft could have been sold intact at this stage but required a wing inspection and repair The estimated cost of this exercise was $US 800,000 and was considered uneconomic The aircraft was then slated for scrapping The fuselage was reduced to scrap metal at Melbourne (Tullamarine) - February 07, 2006 Cancelled from the Australian Aircraft Register - ? |
